Capsule Geology

The Kit 4 showing is located to the northeast of the White River, approximately 35 kilometres southeast of Stewart.

The area is underlain by volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Jurassic Hazelton Group Unuk River and Salmon River formations, which have been intruded by Eocene dykes, sills and plugs of granodiorite quartz-dioritic and aplitic composition.

Molybdenite occurs in trace amounts in thin, 10 centimetre quartz veins associated with the greywackes on the west side of the Kit 4 claim.

In 1991, samples of mineralized veins have returned up to 0.471 per cent million molybdenum (Assessment Report 25406).

Work History

The Band claims were staked by Kennco Explorations (Western) Ltd. in 1966 following a reconnaissance stream sediment sampling program, which yielded anomalous molybdenum values in all streams draining the southern slopes of Banded Mountain. Follow-up work by Kennco included geological mapping and stream sediment, soils and talus fines sampling. Subsequent work, by JMT Services Ltd. was also oriented toward the assessment of molybdenum potential and included prospecting, geological mapping and the collection of soil and rock samples that were analyzed for molybdenum, lead and zinc only. In 1990, Bond Gold Canada Inc. conducted a reconnaissance geological and geophysical program. The current Band mineral claims were located by Richard T. Heard on October 1, 1993. In 1994, the area was explored by Teuton Resources Corp. under the Red Claims. Exploratory programs between 1994 and 1996 have included reconnaissance geology, prospecting, one trial line of magnetometer readings and the collection and analysis of 34 stream sediment and 55 rock samples. During 2017 through 2019, Auryn Resources Inc. completed programs of geological mapping, geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, airborne and ground geophysical surveys and re-logging of historical drill cores.
